Really this photo is just about another spectacular sky over Cape Cod. Some days the light show is just amazing but make sure you are set up with your beach chair and bottle of wine early because this performance does not last long.
First off I can’t believe I have never shared this photo on this blog. This is an amazing piece of property up in Vermont. It has an incredible view and the land itself has just beautiful rolling form. Unfortunately I made this photograph while driving around purposely lost back in 2011 […]
Sometimes everything just falls into place. I guess that is the dream of landscape photography. The dream that a photographer has refined his/her skills so that when the perfect light falls across the perfect location said photographer will be able to make magic that seems effortless to the viewer. 42°56’10” […]
Yeah, I know, spring has just sprung and we still have to endure the summer months but I am ready for autumn to hurry up and get here. This bridge is in Williamsville Vermont, actually I believe it is called the Williamsville Bridge. Funny thing is, I forgot where I […]
Since it is Friday, I thought I would break this weeks black and white trend with something fun and colorful! Love the fall colors in our little slice of the universe!
An epic sunrise in Wilmington Vermont on Labor Day weekend. The sun was to my back for this photo which resulted in beautiful lighting on these clouds. I guarantee this photo is headed to one of my walls. The black and white conversion was developed with one of my custom presets […]
This river runs along the Somerset Road heading out to the Somerset Reservoir in southern Vermont. I am pretty sure it is not a class 4 road but it is unpaved and most likely not maintained in the off season. This photo was make from a new metal […]
I am starting to put together a collection of presets for Lightroom. This is one I created called Hunting Lodge. I have found it works really well on a variety of image types. This week I will feature this preset on the blog to demonstrate its diversity. let me […]
I am currently testing out Capture One software. I am seriously impressed! The color controls are insane! The deal breaker right now is that is do not read in PSD’s so I can’t round trip my images… That makes it really hard for me to have a complete library […]
If you live or visit Brewster then you have undoubtedly visited the Herring Run. (Yes the Herring run down the little stream out to the Atlantic) Unless one of the hundreds of seagulls that show up gobble them down. I haven’t shot here in awhile because they resently replaced the […]
I am fascinated with everything snow; when it falls, how it is blown, how it settles in trees, how muffles sound when I am riding back country tree runs and how it inevitably melts. I made this photo of some geriatric snow that is in the twilight of its […]
Sometimes you just have to stand alone in the storm. I am not sure if I am referring to the tree in this photograph or me as the photographer. Throughout my life I have always been the one heading into the most violent of storms while the rest of […]
Last night we had another great snow storm but this time it was a much warmer storm so the snow was very sticky. It was so sticky and heavy that it held on to the branches well into the afternoon. It sounds like we are going to get two […]
This shot was take a while back when we were having less then consistent winter weather around here. Hot, cold, hot, cold… Anyway with big changes in heat comes really nice ground fog. Ground fog equals drama and I like drama!
Another photo I made while out in the Janus white out. This one was taken on the ocean side of the cape in Chatham. A lot of the photographs I took that day I had to take from the inside of my truck, with 50+ mph winds there is […]
I made this photo prior to Janus’ visit to the Cape, in fact those clouds were the first signs of her arrival. I just happen to catch a glimpse of this craft as I was headed to the beach. I could not ignore the contrast of her white hull […]
Yes, this is a cliché photo. I probably have seen a hundred different version of this same photo. The tree in the snow storm, its dark limbs and trunks contrasted against the white fury of winter. Color striped down to a monotone arctic environment sometimes enhanced by executing the exposure […]
One of the nice things about New England beaches during the winter is that they stay undisturbed. With very little traffic besides a rouge dog walker or sole beach runner the beautiful texture of the tide is left in the sand throughout the day. The early morning light really helps […]
I love fog! Especially when it is thin with lots of detail. This particular fog is called ground fog, it happens when the ground is at 32 degrees (fahrenheit) and is warming drastically slower then the air. Back light that stuff and I am a happy photographer! Doesn’t […]
